I am an artist living on the Island of Kaua'i. My medium of choice is scratchboard, which consists of a hardboard panel covered by a smooth layer of white porcelain clay, which, in turn is covered with india ink. Using knives created for the purpose, I cut through the ink revealing the white clay underneath. Having previously worked in pen and ink (basically black on white) I now work in the reverse, bringing white out of the black. The effects created can be bold designs in sharp contrast, or, more subtle, appearing to be sculptural, or illuminated, or even layered with one image over another.
My work can be seen on Kaua'i at the Koke'e Museum of Natural History in Koke'e State Park, Dawn Traina Gallery in Hanapepe Town, The Artists' Gallery of Kaua'i in Hanalei, and NaPali Gallery in The Hanalei Colony Resort in Haena.
I regularly submit my work to the Kaua'i Society of Artist's shows with great success, and participated in a two-person show at the Kaua'i Museum. Two of my pieces have been purchased by the Hawai'i State Foundation for Culture and The Arts.
